Certified Board Member Chair of Board Course – TRAINING PROGRAM FOR CHAIRS OF BOARDS

Chair of Board
(Hyväksytty Hallituksen Jäsen (HHJ) -puheenjohtajakurssi in English)

The role of the Board of Directors in SMEs has become increasingly important in driving business growth and societal development. As entrepreneurship and the development of SMEs remain key priorities across both public and private sectors, effective board leadership plays a central role in creating sustainable growth, new jobs, and long-term value.

This program focuses on board leadership and group dynamics, with a particular emphasis on the role of the Chair. Whether you are already acting as a Chair or preparing for the role, the course helps you understand how to lead board work with clarity, confidence, and impact. A strong Chair enables the board to function as a true strategic resource for the company.

The program provides practical tools to develop both your own capabilities and the effectiveness of the entire board. It explores how the Chair can guide discussions, support decision-making, and build a high-performing board culture.

Topics include:

  • Core tasks and effectiveness of the board
  • Strategy, decision-making, and governance models
  • Meeting practices and facilitation
  • Business development and CEO collaboration
  • Interaction between the board and its Chair
  • Roles, responsibilities, and impact of the Chair

Who should attend:
This course is designed for both current Chairs of the Board and professionals aiming to take on Chair responsibilities in the future.

The content reflects the renewed CBM Chair / HHJ Chair of the Board program delivered in Finnish. With its updated content, the course is also well suited for those who have previously attended the course in Finnish and wish to refresh and deepen their expertise in English.

Prerequisites:
Participants should have completed the HHJ/CBM course or possess equivalent knowledge.
